School Council

Somerville Primary School – School Council 2020

David Tapp– Acting Principal

I look forward to working together as a team to improve our already wonderful school.

Raelene Harvey – Assistant Principal

Erica Brady– School Council President

Erica Brady became a member of School Council in 2016. Her daughter Meg Cooper is currently in Grade 5 and, along with Dad Paul Cooper, they are enjoying the ‘tree change’ that was their move from Caulfield to Somerville (along with ponies, sheep, chickens, guinea pigs…).  Erica’s current work role is Director of Teaching in the Department of Marketing at Monash University, specialising in planning and strategy.  Erica loves making plans (and lists) and thinking about how organisations, particularly not for profits, can achieve their goals.  Working in the education sector, and having some experience with curriculum and design, means that being on the education sub-committee is actually fun.  It also means that she learns about the school in particular and education more generally and is picking up many tips and tricks from the fabulous staff at SPS to use at her own workplace.

Nicole Thornhill – School Council Vice President

My name is Nicole Thornhill.  I currently have 1 son attending Somerville Primary in Grade 4. l  work as a casual retail assistant in Frankston but my passion is working in schools as a relief Teachers Aide. This is my 5th year on the SC and I find it very rewarding being involved in some of the school decisions. My focus has and always is, to provide the best possible experience for all of the children at Somerville Primary School.

I hope to continue in this role for years to come.

Nicole Baker – School Council Secretary

Hi, I’m Nicole.  This is my third year as a school council member.  I have also been on our fundraising committee, FOSP, for 6 years.  I have Riley in Grade 6, Jade in Grade 5 and my youngest, Flynn, in yr 1.  I enjoy being on school council to see the inner workings of a school and to better understand the decision making process.  In being able to gain this knowledge, I can then assist the school and the families within the school to continue operating in a united way.  One of my biggest aims as a School Council member is to help the school continue improving in all ways including academics and student wellbeing.

Katherine Plummer –School Council Member,

Melissa Norris School Council Member,

Kristie Cooper – School Council Treasurer

Hi, I’m Kristie Cooper.  This is my first year on the School Council.  My daughter Madeline is in year 3, and attended Somerville Kindergarten prior to commencing her schooling with Somerville Primary.  Being new to the area when Maddy started, I joined FoSP in order to meet some new people.  The unexpected bonus however, has been that I have been able to witness just how hard everyone here works to provide the school we have today.  My hopes are that by being part of the School Council, and part of the Education Subcommittee, I can contribute to that in some small way.  I would like to be able to mediate between parents and teachers to limit any gaps in communications, and create a collective school community to educate our children. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with you over the next couple of years.

Emma Fergusson – School Council Member,

Hello, my name is Emma Fergusson. I have a daughter that currently attends SPS,  Isla is in Year 2.

I run my own small business in health & wellbeing and I am also a qualified integration aide where I worked in Yulara Northern Territory.

This is my 2nd year on School Council, I am on the Buildings and Grounds subcommittee and hope to bring some fresh and exciting ideas around the school that not only looks awesome but will benefit the kids in an educative way as well.

Having started my learning years off at SPS, I have seen HUGE changes from when I was running around here, and look forward to more positive change that benefits our school and children.

If you see me around, feel free to say hello ask me any questions or ideas you may have.

Heather Pulling – Senior School Team Leader

I have been a teacher at Somerville Primary since Semester 2, 2006, where I taught a Year 6 grade for a term while the teacher was on leave  In the following years I have taught Years 1/2 – these students are now well into their Year 12 studies, Prep and Years 5/6. It has been lovely to present students at their graduation who I taught at both the beginning and the end of their primary school journey.

I have been on School Council for quite a few years now and originally joined to see how a government School Council compared to the private system that I had come from. I have found School Council to be very informative and also a way to meet new parents that I normally wouldn’t have had much to do with if they weren’t parents of my own students.

I look forward to a productive, informative year.

Jenny Monteath – Junior School Team Leader

I was first posted to Somerville Primary School in 1988 and have taught here for about 18 years. Back then it was a larger school of over 600 students but I found it very welcoming and supportive. I believe that this culture continues today.

I joined School Council four years ago to support the running of our school and to gain greater insight into its workings. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know our wonderful parent members, listening to their points of view and working alongside them to make our school a better place to be.

Sue Goodall – Principal

I have an uncompromising commitment to provide the best educational opportunities we can for our children. To enable your children to become the best versions of themselves they can be the social and emotional welfare and development of children is imperative.  Consistent, quality, best practice learning and teaching for both staff and children go hand in hand. Parent partnership in learning is extremely important. As a strong and challenging team, we all focus on providing the best opportunities for your children.

Although currently on Sick Leave I know the school is in more than capable hands of our committed and hardworking staff. Our leadership team of David Tapp (Acting Principal) and Raelene (Assistant Principal) are completely focused on providing care and education of the highest standards.

On a personal level I have been teaching for several years! In fact, there are parents at our school whom I taught and remember me well as a Year six teacher!  It never ceases to surprise me that people forget that my passion remains for the relationships we can build with children as their teachers ☺ I also have been a principal for over ten years. Starting my principalship at Bayles Regional Primary School.

I relax through cycling, boxing, going to the gym, walking three dogs and drinking coffee with friends!

Go Team Somerville!
